A careful budgeting of time for teaching the two components of the language course will still leave the teacher with a surplus which could be used for co-curricular activities like recitation contests, plays and for revision or remedial work.

Academic year 220 days
Examinations, Sports and other co-curricular activities 60 days
Actual teaching days 160 days
1 period a day for English i.e. 160 periods

5 periods for 1 lessor (5 x 12 lessons = 60)
2 periods for 1 poem (2 x 7 poems = 14)
74 periods
Activity Book
3 periods for 1 activity sheet
(3 x 12 activity sheets = 36)
36 periods
Tests 10 periods
Projects and other activities like language games
6 periods
Using the library; (story telling, other ancillary activities) 20 periods
  Note: Learners should be encouraged to keep scrap-books, diaries and have pen friends.
  Total 146 periods
Balance 14 periods
  Total 160 periods
